Christian Depression and Epigenetics

How Epigenetics can help a Christian overcome depression

How much control have we over our health, the emerging science of epigenetics is offering some answers that put true control within our reach, and can also help us to overcome and get free from depression and other oppression’s.

Christian Depression and EpigeneticsAccording to some scientists, changing your health may be as “simple” as changing your thoughts and beliefs.

“Contrary to what many people are being led to believe, a lot of emphasis placed on genes determining human behavior is nothing but theory and doctrine,” writes Konstantin Erikseni . “We are free to make decisions that impact our lives and those of others. … Our beliefs can change our biology. We have the power to heal ourselves, increase our feelings of self-worth and improve our emotional state.”

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he — Prov 23:7

What this all means is that you are not controlled by your genetic makeup. Instead, your genetic readout (which genes are turned “on” and which are turned “off”) is primarily determined by your thoughts, attitudes, and perceptions!

The major problem with believing the myth that your genes control your life is that you become a victim of your heredity. Since you can’t change your genes, it essentially means that your life is predetermined, and therefore you have very little control over your health

Rom 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.

Just deal with the perceptions and the belief systems, the emotions, and the lifestyle and health will come right back to fullness again, so your belief systems ( underlying beliefs, your Heart in the bible), when they change to can overcome Depression and other oppression’s.

How a Christian can overcome depression:

According to Aaron Beck, the pioneer of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), depressed patients experience streams of negative thoughts that seemed to arise spontaneously.

These thoughts fall into three categories, negative thought about themselves, the world and/or the future.

Back in the 1960’s, Mr. Beck helped patients identify and evaluate these automatic thoughts, and he found that when patients changed their underlying beliefs about themselves, their world and other people, this resulted in long-lasting change.

(CBT) has been studied and proven effective in treating depression, and is widely used all over the world to this day.

So, if people with depression change their underlying beliefs (Heart) about themselves, their world and other people, it has been proven to help fight and get free from depression.
